Chateau Latour, 1961. Robert Parker 100 points! "Port like with an unctuous texture and a dark garnet colour with considerable amber at the edge, the 1961 Latour possesses a viscosity and thickness approached only by vintages such as 1982 and 1959. Two tried were liquid perfection, exhibiting fragrant, cedary, truffle, leather, mineral, and sweet jammy aromatics, full-bodied, voluptuous textures, exquisite purity and concentration, and a layered, highly nuanced finish that represents the essence of compellingly great wine. The 1961 has been fully mature for than 15 years, but, much like the 1982, it seems to get richer, holding on to its succulence and fat and developing more aromatic nuances without losing any sweetness or concentration. An extraordinary wine, it is unquestionably one of the Bordeaux legends of the century! Anticipated maturity now-2025." |

The lovely wine expert and "Times" wine correspondent, Jane MacQuitty, specifically mentioned us in March 2011 for Chateau Latour, 1961, in her foodies & wine "secret address book". |
The following 7 bottles, (II) to (OO), have good "Alfred Schyler Fils & Co, Negociants a Bordeaux" slip labels on the back of the bottles. |

Chateau Latour, 1961: "In everyone's list of mythical wines, but still very much present in its enormous vigour, dimension and complexity. The rich, pervasively scented bouquet leads to a great, treacly taste, with overlapping layers, plus fruit and tannin in massive doses. A huge gulp of intoxication fruit and aromatics, with that inimitable thick texture of 1961 in general and Latour in particular. So much fat, it covers the tannins.Total tensile strength. It literally is 'crunchy' with berries. After 2 hours in the glass, it is even more stupendous." |

Such is the magnetic attraction to this great wine that 4 cases, direct from the cellars of Chateau Latour, were sold at Christies' May, 2011 auction in Hong Kong at a rock solid price of over 115,000 GBP per case! |

1966, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, a classic example of the vintage, in my opinion the best ever label design by Pierre Alechinsky.
Originating from a private client, having been purchased "En Primeur" and unmoved since arriving in the U.K., we appear to be the first to open the original wooden cases. The labels are in super condition, but there are some short fills, possibly at the time of bottling as there are no signs of seepage. |
